Overview
Mount Makalu, known for its iconic pyramid shape, is a formidable challenge even for seasoned climbers. Located 14 miles east of Everest, it straddles the Nepal-Tibet border. Our journey begins in Kathmandu, where we prepare and acclimatize before flying to Tumlingtar and driving to Num. The trek to Makalu Base Camp spans diverse landscapes, from lush valleys to alpine tundra, and takes approximately nine days.
Upon reaching Base Camp at 4,850 meters, climbers will engage in acclimatization rotations to higher camps, including Camp I (6,100m), Camp II (6,500m), Camp III (7,400m), and Camp IV (7,800m). The ascent to the summit involves navigating steep pitches and knife-edged ridges, requiring technical rock and ice climbing skills. The final push to the summit is a test of endurance and skill, rewarded with panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, and the surrounding Himalayas.
Throughout the expedition, climbers will be supported by experienced guides and Sherpas, ensuring safety and providing expertise. Our itinerary includes ample time for acclimatization and weather contingencies, maximizing the chances of a successful summit.
