Overview

The Gasherbrum II expedition offers climbers a chance to tackle one of the easier 8,000-meter peaks, making it an excellent introduction to high-altitude mountaineering. The journey begins in Islamabad, where we finalize preparations before flying to Skardu, the gateway to the Karakoram Range. From Skardu, we drive to Askole, the starting point of our trek.

The trek to Base Camp takes about a week, passing through picturesque landscapes and challenging terrain, including the Baltoro Glacier. Each day involves approximately 6-8 hours of trekking, with ample time for acclimatization and rest. Upon reaching Base Camp, situated at 5,150 meters, we spend several days preparing for the ascent.

Our climb follows the Southwest Ridge, known for its relatively straightforward route with few technical challenges. We establish multiple high camps, ensuring proper acclimatization and safety. The summit push requires careful planning and execution, but the panoramic views from the top are a climber’s dream come true. After the summit, we descend back to Base Camp and make our way back to Islamabad, concluding the adventure with a sense of accomplishment.
